Royal Weeding etc.

April 29, 2011

The giant hogweed has escaped from the Royal Gardens at Kew. Run for your life everybody! They are immune to our herbicidal battering!

Did anybody see last night’s episode of Big Bang Theory? Classic. Absolutely classic.

I don’t want to throw up spoilers here in case you missed it, but I will say this: two words, smoking monkey.

And now for today’s Faggot of the Day.

For the second time this month, southern Ontario has been hit by a wind storm. For the companies that own the nearby wind power farms, this is great news. Not only were those wind power farms producing more electricity than normal, they were being paid for every watt.

The province of Ontario struck a sweetheart deal with the wind power farms guaranteeing the farms payment for every watt produced, regardless of the system’s present demand for electricity.

Twice this month, southern Ontario has had far greater than normal wind thus the wind farms have had far greater than normal production. In both cases of greater than normal wind power production, the demand for electricity in the province was lower than normal. Turns out people in Ontario are unlikely to run their air conditioners on windy days in April.

The abundance of wind power at times when the demand for electricity was low forced the province to export the unused electricity. Which would be great if the selling price of the exported electricity covered the cost of production. Unfortunately, it does not. Ontario had to pay Quebec to take the electricity off the Ontario grid. Quebec gets most of it’s electricity from the burning of things (coal, oil, refined waste). One of the benefits of electricity produced through the burning of things is the ability for the producer to control when and how much electricity is produced. Wind (and solar) power do not offer that flexibility.

For guaranteeing payment to companies that cannot guarantee or control production of a product, regardless of there being demand for the product, the current Ontario government is today’s faggot of the day.

That whole scenario gave me a headache.

That whole scenario gave me a higher electricity bill.

The government contracts here are equally slick as far as deals for the corporations go. Makes me ill. Almost as ill as the idea of buying underwear at the Dollar Store.

I hate wind. It just blows and blows and blows, like it’s never going to stop. It’s so obnoxious.

      Which makes me an expert!

And for the record, I just live here, I’m not from here!

    Hogweed is scary.

I’m not even going to bother discussing with you about the science behind why using wind/solar power = good, and burning things for electricity = bad. Your bills for everything on Earth will rise even higher if our climate continues to change because of our collective laziness and failure to act.

collective laziness, sounds like Quebec, failure to act, sounds like the rest of Canada

The ride into work that day was like a ride at an amusement park!

I drove behind a driver’s ed car when the plastic pylon sign atop it blew off. What’s the teacher supposed to say at that point?
