Happiness is a Warm Billy West

March 21, 2012

I believe that everybody in this world deserves some happiness.

How much happiness varies person to person. Think of happiness on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the least amount of happy and 10 being the most. For somebody who is a complete and total suck-wad, I believe that person deserves only a 1 on the happiness scale. While somebody as awesome as myself deserves more, like an 8 or a 9.

I’m not greedy or egotistical. I’m not giving myself a 10. I don’t deserve a 10. I can recognize my tiny amounts of sucking.

Meanwhile, it seems that there’s a wave of unhappiness infecting my world. Nobody around me seems all that happy. Not that these people necessarily deserve complete happiness. Let’s say these people deserve somewhere between 5 and 8 happiness. Right now, they’re not getting the happiness they deserve. They’re all around a 3 or 4. And that’s bumming me out.

I don’t like to be bummed out. I should be at all times, at least, a 7, one less than I deserve. I should never be dropped below that. This wave of unhappiness is giving me a 6. I don’t like being a 6.

Fortunately for me, I have an instant happy method. I have access to the happiest song ever, Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves. that song always makes me happy. I could be driving around and that song comes on the radio (or the CD player as I keep a copy in my car at all times for just such an emergency) and I start rocking out.

At first, I start doing this little finger-pointing hand-jive sorta thing. I remind myself of Stimpy (of Ren & Stimpy fame) when he’s watching the Muddy Mudskipper Show while sitting in his litterbox. He does this finger-snapping and hand-jiving thing.

As the song progresses, I start bopping my head back and forth and a little bit side to side. Basically, I’m dancing in while sitting down. I’m sure anybody in a nearby car who happens to glance in my direction thinks I’m drunk or mildly mentally disadvantaged. Which brings me to the second mental image to pop in my head during the song, Fry (from Futurama). It’s no secret Walking on Sunshine is Fry’s favourite song.

Stimpy and Fry, a pair of animated characters, share some similarities. Both are generally blissfully ignorant as they make their way through life. Both are mentally disadvantaged. (Notice how I’m trying very hard not to say they’re retarded even though they both clearly are.) Both are voiced by the very funny Billy West.

And now the title of this post makes sense.

I am around you and I am happy. I hurt my finger last night at basketball but I am happy. I was just talking to Oliver, he says he is pretty happy too.

Oliver’s not happy. I’ve spoken to him. He’s still pissed that you had him fixed.

Well, it certainly is a bummer when your 8 is knocked down to a 6 because of suckitude all around you. I can relate to that. Here’s hoping a little sunshine-walkin’, head-boppin’, finger-jivin’ car dancing helps you get back to the 8. I completely forgot Billy West voiced Stimpy, too. Heh.

No one deserves happiness they need to earn it. And no one deserves to listen to that song again…

I love saying “That’s retarded!” (it has to be verbalized for maximum effect, not written or read) to describe something that’s stupid, even though it’s not PC. Even though Ken has a real-life retarded brother. I don’t just bust out the expression anytime I feel like it though. I guage my audience, and sometimes I’ll qualify it with “if you’ll excuse the expression”.

    That’s retarded.

I guess I should probably listen that song as my happiness is not very high on the scale these days.

Or forget your troubles with a big bowl of strawberry ice cream.

I’m actually more apt to forget my troubles with a bunch of math problems! I’m am Lisa Simpson, aren’t I?

But Malibu Stacy is better than ever. She has a new hat!

I love Futurama. Like you, I seem to be surrounded by people who aren’t as happy as I think they deserve to be. Hopefully spring will fix that.

    Oh, Futurama is the best.
And this spring is more like summer for me. It’s too freakin’ hot around here. My allergies are already kicking in.

A 5-8 on the happiness scale? So, you’re not really a well wisher, more of a semi-well wisher, a partial-well wisher? Hmm.

The song is awesome, brings out the happy just as much now as it did when it came out. :)

And you’ve inspired me, so I thank you in advance. :)

it’s just such a happy song
