Weekend Recap

June 24, 2013

There was much heat and humidity on the weekend. In fact, the heat was so brutal that it penetrated the storm clouds and shone light through the rain. I would have preferred the rain to cool the planet. It did not. The sunny rainy conditions just confused my already heat-exhausted mind.

I needed something from a hardware store. I decided to go to a Canadian store. Support local businesses, right? Sure, whatever I’m buying is made in China but keep retail profits local.

Going Canadian was a mistake. I drove the extra distance for nothing. The store was poorly organized. I could not find the product I wanted, only the display model. Nor could I find a worker who looked like they wanted to be there.

I went to the American hardware store closer to my house. I found the product I was looking for in under sixty seconds. And the store was clean. And the workers were all working. And there were more of them visible to me.

I try to support Canadian businesses but they make it so very difficult. American stores operating in Canada are much more inviting and make for a more pleasant shopping experience.

Upon getting home, I took out my frustrations on a bush in my front yard. Lets just say I’m no Edward Scissorhands. I learned to use hedge clippers by watching Adrian Adonis and Brutus Beefcake.

The goal was to trim enough of the bush so that it no longer obstructs my window. The bush is now sloppy and crooked but the obstruction to my window is gone.

Mission accomplished! Well done. And it’s too bad local businesses don’t seem to want to compete on the same playing field. Here in the US, it’s similar with Walmart. No one *wants* to go to Walmart, but the other businesses won’t try to find a way to be competitive on a price level (when they can, of course), and so…*shrug* Whattaya gonna do?

At least you got what you needed and did the job despite the threat of heat delirium.

Would you believe one Canadian hardware store uses a prerecorded message from a speaker instead of a greeter person.

Lordy, I am going to have nightmares about that guy in the photo.

You’re afraid of a barber? Now I’m glad I didn’t post a pic of Abdullah the butcher.

And now your neighbors can see in! :D

Glad you finally found what you were looking for.
